Aviation Accidents
Over the past two and a half decades, Jeannete Lewis has handled the development and litigation of a multitude of general aviation and military air crash cases on behalf of victims and families whose loved ones were injured or killed in helicopter and airplane accidents, both domestically and abroad.
Car Accidents
Automotive accidents can happen suddenly and often times bring about life-changing consequences. Jeannete Lewis has over 25 years of experience in handling automobile and motorcycle claims, from inception and pre-suit, through trial and appeal if necessary.
Motorcycle accidents
Motorcycle accidents nearly always involve fatal, life-threatening, or very serious and permanent injuries – even for helmeted riders who wear all of the protective gear. Indeed, motorcyclists are significantly overrepresented in fatal collisions with the likelihood of a fatality 28 times greater for motorcyclists than for persons in passenger vehicles.
Boating, Watercraft and Watersport Accidents
Florida boasts approximately 663 beaches, over 1,100 miles of coastline, and nearly 1 million registered vessels and watercraft. Hundreds of businesses and clubs are set up to rent boats, personal watercraft, provide watersports activities and there is very little regulation governing how they operate and what instructions they give. In the parasailing industry for example, despite the presence of a law on the books, it does not require vendors and operators to inspect their equipment, notwithstanding the fact that equipment failure is the causal factor in the majority of the reported accidents to date.
Premises Liability
Property owners have a non-delegable duty to make their premises safe for persons whom they expressly or impliedly invite thereon. Whether it is a residential home or a commercial property, such as an apartment complex, hotel, school, shopping mall or strip center, if injury or death occurs there, the victim and/or their family may file a lawsuit against the property owners, property managers, homeowners’ association or condominium association.
Negligent Security
Jeannete Lewis has litigated multiple cases involving the failure to provide adequate security resulting in the victim suffering serious injuries or death. Landowners or those having control over property have a non-delegable duty to provide safe premises and, where crime is foreseeable, their legal duty may require the hiring of security companies, retention of off duty police, surveillance, proper lighting and landscape maintenance.
Liquor Liability
Florida Statute §768.125 governs when and whether a seller or furnisher of alcohol may be subject to liability for the harm caused by the acts or omissions of intoxicated persons. The statute protects only two classes of people and only then, under certain circumstances.
Medical Malpractice
It is commonly perceived and stated by proponents of injustice that medical malpractice litigation isfrivolous and its proliferation does nothing but increase health care costs which hurts “us all.” One recent study shows that medical errors result in approximately 250,000 deaths annually, which fact generally puts medical malpractice in line as the third leading cause of death in the United States. Johns Hopkins Medicine, Study Release date: May 3, 2016.
Pool Drowning
Florida is no stranger to pool drownings and in recent years, the state and federal legislatures have passed laws requiring greater safety in and around pools, including laws governing public pools, fence requirements, pool safety gates and locking mechanisms, and alarms.
