Does a property owner have a duty to know about ongoing criminal activity in his property and surrounding area?

Commercial property owners absolutely have an obligation to know about what kind of crime is happening on their property and in the surrounding area. They have a duty to provide a safe premises and to take measures to prevent crime that is reasonably foreseeable. So hence, they have to know about the crime that’s occurring. What they can’t do is stick their heads in the sand and pretend that, you know, “If we don’t know, it must not be occurring.” That opens them up to liability and vulnerability in the event when and if crime does occur and someone is injured.
